THE DEMINER

THE DEMINER
Dir: Hogir Hirori & Shinwar Kamal
Sweden / 2017 / 83mins

After the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003, Fakhir, a father of eight and Major in the Iraq armed forces, goes on a personal mission to disarm the thousands of mines laid across Mosul. Hours of video footage shot by his fellow troops and discovered years later by his son, show Fakhir risking his life time and again with just a simple knife and a pair of wire clippers. With nail-biting tension, The Deminer reveals an extraordinary man who – in an unstable country left ravaged by war and regime change – is willing to put the safety of his fellow citizens before his own.
