Join us for a discussion between Kirsten Johnson and Alan Berliner about her latest doc 'Dick Johnson is Dead'.

With her latest documentary, Dick Johnson is Dead, flooring audiences and garnering critical praise, we’re excited to welcome Kirsten Johnson in conversation with acclaimed filmmaker Alan Berliner. The two New York based directors will discuss Johnson’s career, focusing on her newest film about her father Dick Johnson – her elaborate, personal exploration of mortality and the workings of grief, by turns delightfully macabre and piercingly poignant.

As her father Dick’s dementia encroaches, Johnson embarks on a film project with him – staging multiple death scenes from a number of lurid accidents. Filled with surprises from start to finish, the film won Sundance’s Special Jury Award for Innovation in Non-Fiction storytelling.

About Kirsten Johnson:
Her recent award-winning film Cameraperson sees Johnson draw on footage shot during her 25 year career, creating both a visual memoir of her own personal journey and a thoughtful interrogation of the power of the camera. Johnson is the principal cinematographer in over 40 feature-length documentaries including Citizenfour, Pray the Devil Back to Hell and The Invisible War.

About Alan Berliner:
Alan Berliner, is perhaps most famously known for his film Nobody’s Business where he chooses his withdrawn father as the reluctant subject of this moving and graceful poignant study of family history and memory. His documentaries First Cousin Once Removed (2013), Wide Awake (2206), The Sweetest Sound (2001), and Intimate Stranger (1991), have been broadcast all over the world, and received awards, prizes, and retrospectives at many major international film festivals.
