Topics: Personal Stories

Striking, honest and poetic in equal measure, Wake Me Up At Midnight is a patchwork collage of a young woman's life.

The woman in question is Italian journalist and writer Fuani Marino – impulsive, creative, brilliant and suffering from undiagnosed mental illness.

When Fuani marries and has a baby, her world begins to spiral out of control. This exquisitely-composed reflection on a life, is pieced together entirely from archival material – inventively using both personal and public archives.

Narrated by the magnetic Fuani herself, it intimately tells a very human story of hope and perseverance, in sublime Italian style.

The screening on Saturday the 24th of June was followed by a Q&A with director Francesco Patierno in partnership with Cinecittà Italian Doc Season. Hosted by Malaika Bova.
