A remote sliver of land in the Northwest Atlantic ocean, Sable island is renowned for its rich and rare ecosytems, and its sole human inhabitant for the last 40 years, naturalist and environmentalist Zoe Lucas.
Geographies of Solitude is an immersion into the life of the island, guided by Lucas, who has studied, collected and recorded the flora and fauna, the rocks and the sand, the cycles and the seasons.
Shooting on 16mm, cinematographer and director Jacquelyn Mills allows the island itself into the film, using innovative and playful techniques to create not just a visually mesmerising portrait but a tactile collaboration with the natural world.
