A large, ramshackle house becomes a temporary home and a possible salvation for a group of young kids, in Simon Lereng Wilmont's beautifully observed study of a half-way house in Eastern Ukraine.

Here, a group of women look after young children whose families have been shattered by poverty and violence, for just a few shorts months while a decision is made about their future: whether they will return to broken families, find foster placements or see out their teens in one of the city's orphanages.

A poignant and often hopeful portrait of a way-station filled with care, support, and trust for kids who are in desperate need of more.
