Pauline Black, the lead singer of hit band The Selecter, is the living embodiment of the 2-Tone music movement, which helped shift British society towards diversity with a whole new ethos of anti-racism and gender politics.
The band had a unique sound and energy, defined by Pauline’s distinctive voice and performance, reflecting working class life in Thatcher’s England.
After a difficult upbringing, adopted into a white family in Romford, the 2-Tone music movement was the perfect setting for Pauline to explore and express all sides of herself. In this forthright and fascinating film, she tells her own extraordinary life story, traces her legacy and reflects on its relevance today.
