On Sunday the 19th of July we held a Zoom Q&A with film director Sergei Loznitsa and film scholar Professor Ian Christie. Presented in partnership with Pushkin House.

Winner of the top prize at IDFA, Mr. Landsbergis tells an absorbing story of the Luthianuan nation’s fight for independence between 1988 and 1993.

This epic documentary focuses on music professor Vytautas Landsbergis, who by the will of fate became the first Head of Parliament of Lithuania after it left the Soviet Union. Along with the portrait of this charismatic person, Ukrainian filmmaker Sergei Lozntisa offers an author’s look at the archival footage of the peaceful protests that are often called the “singing revolution.”

This reflection on the persistent democratic movement towards freedom becomes an important historical lesson about Soviet imperialism.
