The screening on Wednesday the 14th of August was followed by a Q&A with director Victoria Mapplebeck and producer Debbie Manners. Hosted by journalist Saskia Baron.

At the age of 38, BAFTA-winning director Victoria Mapplebeck found herself single, pregnant and broke. Unable to continue her career as a freelance filmmaker, she turned the camera on herself.

Cut from hundreds of hours of footage shot over 20 years, Motherboard is a celebration of messy lives, revealing the pain, joy and comedy of raising her son, Jim, alone.

From her first scan to his first day at college, Victoria captures the trials and traumas of unromanticized parenting, where chaos rules and tempers fray, as Jim grows into a young adult who towers over his mother. Camera in hand, the pair navigate life’s slings and arrows with unfailing humour and an irrepressible ability to turn lemons into lemonade.
