This film tells the unique story of the Ayachis, a French Muslim family from Aix-en-Provence who traded their peaceful lives for revolution and Jihad in Syria.
Over three years, filmmaker Stéphane Malterre captured their turbulent lives in Syria, fighting against ISIS (also known as Daesh) and Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
Son, Abdel Rahmane, joins the revolution as a commanding soldier for the Islamist rebels under the name Abu Hajar. At the same time his father, Bassam, works behind the scenes as an ad hoc tribunal judge and sheik.Family members who remain in France weigh in on their loved ones’ situation and sacrifice, telling a remarkable story of integration, fundamentalism and the gap between Western and Eastern cultures.
