This event pairs Joe Cornick’s impressionistic 16mm portrait of the final years of traditional steelmaking in Port Talbot, Steel: The Blood of Us (2026) with The Face of Change (1976), Malcolm Hignett’s document of the British Steel industry as it grappled with the seismic effects of recession and modernisation.
Made exactly 50 years apart, the two films offer contrasting perspectives on Britain’s steel industry and the communities shaped by it.
Followed by a Q&A with Steel: The Blood of Us director Joe Cornick and composer Benjamin Doherty.
