Explore the world of shortform documentary with Bertha DocHouse online this Summer.
We’re taking a deep-dive into the work of three exceptional British short filmmakers with three global online events, to discover and enjoy the small but perfectly-formed art of nonfiction short filmmaking. Each ‘Filmmaker Focus’ event in this series will present the work of a chosen director, with a live online discussion about their films, and their filmmaking career. Inspiration, motivation, collaboration and much more will all be discussed! The discussions will be hosted by journalist, programmer and lecturer Carol Nahra. All events will be available for free, worldwide.
Short Filmmaker Focus: ROXY REZVANY

About Roxy Rezvany: Roxy is a filmmaker working in London. She has recently released the short documentary, Wifi Rider, which was awarded a One World Media fellowship to develop, and premiered in the US on Topic as part of Roger Ross Williams’ One Story Up series, and premiered globally on Short Of The Week, Nowness, and as a Vimeo Staff Pick. Her award-winning debut short, Little Pyongyang, premiered in competition at CPH: Dox 2018. It was distributed by Guardian Documentaries and featured on BBC World News, and has been named one of the best documentaries available online by Wired. Roxy was selected as a Future Producer by Sheffield Doc/Fest, and was on the cover of Broadcast Magazine’s 2018 Hot Shots issue. Her TV credits include work for BBC, Channel 4, and VICE – including both seasons of the Emmy award-nominated series Gaycation with Elliot Page.

About Duncan Cowles: Duncan Cowles is a BAFTA Scotland Award winning documentary filmmaker whose short films The Lady with the Lamp, Soft Toffee, Radio Silence, Directed by Tweedie, Isabella, Alexithymia, Taking Stock, Just Agree Then & In the Company of Insects have been selected for various film festivals internationally winning a selection of awards, and gaining significant online exposure through platforms such as Short of the Week, Vimeo Staff Picks, BFI Player, It’s Nice That and more.

About Kate Stonehill: Kate Stonehill is an award-winning documentary filmmaker whose work explores power and citizenship in the digital age. Her recent short films include The Family Statement (2022) for Field of Vision and the Grierson award nominated Mother (BFI London Film Festival 2020). Her films have been supported by the Catapult Film Fund, Tribeca Film Institute, and BFI Doc/Society, and she is a recipient of the Logan Nonfiction Fellowship (2020).As a cinematographer, Kate has worked for broadcasters including VICE and Amazon Studios, and shot a number of short documentaries for Channel 4 News. Films she has directed have screened online, at festivals and at public art institutions including DOC NYC, Sheffield Doc/Fest, and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.
