Can you ever really understand life from the perspective of teenagers? Agostino Ferrente gets us close by handing a camera phone to Alessandro and Pietro, two 16-year-olds living in Naples.
Alessandro works in a bar. Pietro is going to be a hairdresser. They film themselves over a hot Summer in the southern city; working, riding their mopeds, in their homes and out on the streets.
It’s not all banter and water parks though. In 2014, their friend Davide was shot and killed by local police, apparently mistaken for a fugitive. The two best friends are working through their shock and grief, and trying to get to the bottom of a tragedy that has shaken a neighbourhood already struggling with poverty and the ever-present Camorra. With camera phones in continual selfie mode, the boys show us their world. It’s performed, it’s real, it’s hilarious and it’s heartbreaking.
