Summer, 2019: As Britain comes to terms with Voting Leave, a German filmmaker finds himself in an English seaside town taking an affectionate look at the last authentic end-of-the-pier variety show.
In the sleepy coastal town of Cromer, Jens Meurer follows local heroes preparing for the summer season – it’s a quintessentially English variety performance with a little razzle dazzle, many dance numbers, magicians and plenty of traditional British seaside humour.
Getting to know Cromer’s colourful cast of characters, Jens also takes an insider-outsider’s look into a microcosm of modern Britain, and even as the country tears itself apart over Europe, the show must go on.
On Sunday the 12th of November we hosted a post-screening Q&A with director Jens Meurer and protagonists Olly Day and My Bad Sister.
