Beneath the quiet threat of eruption, people go about their days: archaeologists unearth the past, children learn as the earth hums, firefighters wait for the next call. As with his previous films (including Sacro Gra, Fire at Sea and Notturno), Rosi interweaves strands, stories and ideas into a breathtaking, immersive experience.
With exquisite black-and-white cinematography, we see the eternal city of Naples through Rosi’s eyes, moving between eras and cultures, above and below ground, below the clouds of Vesuvius.
