The first of two LGBTI Human Rights Activism and Film events organised by the ‘School of Advanced Study’ as part of the Being Human Festival 2015.This event will focus on the experiences of the Envisioning Global LGBT Human Rights transnational project (www.envisioninglgbt.com) in its innovative work with grassroots activists in participatory video film-making, to document the experiences and human rights struggles of LGBTI people. It will begin with a talk by Professor Nancy Nicol (Visual Arts Department, York University, Canada) who leads the Envisioning project, on participatory video film-making involving community authorship, video production skills training, community outreach and community building (30 minutes). This will be followed by the UK premiere of the newest Envisioning and Sexual Minorities Uganda documentary, And Still We Rise, (2015, 70 mins) focussing on the struggle against the Anti-Homosexuality Act led by Sexual Minorities Uganda and the Civil Society Coalition On Human Rights and Constitutional Law in Uganda.Professor Nicol will be joined for a panel discussion by Junic Wambya, Freedom and Roam Uganda (former Executive Director), who was involved in the participatory filmmaking process and Richard Lusimbo the Research and Documentation Manager for Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) and Chair or the Africa Research Team for Envisioning Global LGBT Human Rights.This event is free to attend by you MUST reserve a ticket in advance.Book your ticket by clicking here or the link in the box above.http://beinghumanfestival.org/
