Details
In the small rural town of Tepoztlán, Mexico, fifteen-year-old Karla tells her own coming-of-age story as she navigates the joys and complexities of trans adolescence.
Karla is coursing through all the typical milestones for someone of her age: experimenting with makeup, practicing for the school cheer team and being embarrassed by her parents. But despite the efforts of her deeply supportive family, Karla lives in a world where her identity has become a talking point, things have become slightly more complicated.
The culmination of eight years of footage, Karla and director Kani Lapuerta co-author the film, giving Karla space to tell her own story on her own terms. At a time when trans kids are spoken over and spoken for, Niñxs is a joyous, radical and anarchic expression of trans youth.
The screening on Monday 23 Feb will be followed by a Q&A (via Zoom) with director Kani Lapuerta.
The screening will be Open Captioned and a British Sign Language interpreter will be visible on stage throughout the Q&A.
