A real-life epic, this film follows 7 year old Afghan boy Mir Hussain over twenty years, as he grows up into adulthood in one of the most embattled countries of the world.

Beginning in 2002 in the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Centre, and interspersed with newsreel footage and comments of soldiers, politicians and journalists, the film interweaves Mir’s personal life with the narrative of his nation.

My Childhood, My Country is a decades-long portrait of a young man struggling to survive in difficult circumstances, and offers a uniquely personal insight into one of the most devastating conflicts of the 21st Century. My Childhood, My Country screens on International Peace Day to mark one year since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.
