Visionary composer and performer Meredith Monk overcame hostile critics to become one of the great artists of her generation.
Pioneering new vocabularies of sound and vocal performance as she took on the downtown New York arts scene of the 1960s and 70s, Monk has remained true to her singular artistic vision throughout six decades of work.
Featuring interviews with admirers and collaborators, including Björk and David Byrne, Monk in Pieces is a mosaic portrait that mirrors the structure of Monk’s own work, and illuminates her wildly original sound and imagery.
The short film About Memory and Loss was shown ahead of our screenings of Monk in Pieces.
