In the remote foothills of the Himalayas, former monk Lobsang Phuntsok has built a community for children who have endured abandonment and neglect.

Once a spiritual teacher in the US, Lobsang returned to India to create the kind of refuge he never had as a troubled child himself.

Loving Karma revisits Lobsang twelve years after the Emmy-winning short film Tashi and the Monk, which follows his most volatile arrival, young Tashi, as she pushes against every rule and every adult who tries to help her. Now, a new generation of children are learning to care for one another, and Tashi must learn to offer the same patient support that she herself received.

As the children grow, falter and flourish, the film asks a fundamental question: what happens when suffering meets compassion? Through intimate portraits and unfolding stories, Loving Karma shows how even the most wounded child can become both healed and healer.

"LOVING KARMA is truth telling.... compelling... and extraordinarily moving"

Hindustan Times

"Jhamtse Gatsai is one of the most extraordinary and inspiring communities you're likely to witness.... the beating heart, and the reason why it will linger with viewers long after its conclusion - is the rare opportunity to see a child find her hope again. It's a touching tribute to the transformative power of compassion."
