Legendary filmmaker-photographer Raymond Depardon collaborates with wife and long term creative partner, Claudine Nougaret, to bring us a captivating and highly personal panorama of modern France.

Having spent six years traversing his homeland on solo road trips, capturing its hidden corners with a large format camera, legendary filmmaker-photographer-reporter Raymond Depardon collaborates with his wife and long term creative partner, Claudine Nougaret, to bring us a richly textured travel journal.

Together they interweave these arrestingly beautiful images of a disappearing France with footage from Depardon’s oeuvre, spanning more than 40 years. From this archive comes rarely seen footage of Depardon’s reporting career, including his years covering wars and civil unrest across the globe, his interviews with such historic figures as Jean-Bedel Bokassa and Nelson Mandela, as well as his coverage of political subjects closer to home.

A tribute to the masterful eye, humanistic heart and extraordinary life’s work of one of the great visual artists of our time, Journal de France is at once both a personal career retrospective and a fragmentary history of modern France.
