Bestiari, Erbari, Lapidari is a docu-encyclopaedia, divided into three acts, each of which deals with a single subject - animals, plants, stones.
Told through three distinct storytelling techniques, the acts of the film trace a single dramatic arc. Bestiari is a found-footage on how and why cinema has obsessively represented animals; Erbari is a poetic observational documentary from inside Padua’s Botanical Gardens – the oldest botanical gardens in the world; Lapidari portrays the transformation of stone into collective memory through human labour, buildings or monuments. By examining our relationships with each of the subjects – be it a strive for dominance or a caring one – the film looks back at humanity itself. IDFA 2024 Envision Award Winner – Best Directing. Official Selection Venice Film Festival 2024.
