In the early hours of 6th February 2023, a massive earthquake struck near the border of Turkey and Syria. Death Without Mercy captures the destruction and the desperate search for loved ones over the minutes, hours and days that followed.

Director Waad al-Kateab (For Sama) intimately follows the stories of two familes, out of the thousands effected: Fuad, who returns from a business trip to discover his home destroyed and his wife and children trapped under the rubble, and cinematographer Fadi, who battles to cross the border from Syria into Turkey after hearing that his family home has collapsed.

Death Without Mercy is a powerful record of the devastation, a tribute to those who lost their lives and those who survived, and uncovers how government incompetence, corruption and a lack of humanitarian aid exacerbated the destruction.

Content warning: Film contains distressing scenes of bereavement and death.

The screening on 11 Dec will be followed by a panel discussion with director Waad Al-Kateab and producer Hasan Kattan along with cinematographer and protagonist Fadi Al Halabi.
