18-year-old Irma Testa is idolised in her native Italy when she becomes the first woman to make it onto the Olympic boxing team. But soon, Irma is questioning whether she has sacrificed too much to make it to the top.

Boxing champion Irma Testa is known as the Butterfly. She’s idolised in her native Italy, where at just 18 years old she became Italy’s first female boxer to make it to the Olympics. But the pressure is intense for Irma.

Having given up school and moved away from her family to train, she is now having doubts, and returns home to try to reconnect with her loved ones. Her younger brother seems to be going off the rails, and is not sure he wants Irma back bossing him around.

As a hard-working single mum, Irma’s mother knows that boxing is the best way for Irma to break away from their impoverished Naples neighbourhood. Irma’s childhood coach wants what’s best for her – a father figure to her, he knows he is over-invested.

Butterfly follows Irma through a critical period as she tries to see her way through a murky future where everything seems to be on the line.
