A mesmerizing psychological thriller with a killer whale at its centre, Blackfish is the first film since Grizzly Man to show how nature can get revenge on man when pushed to its limits.

An emotionally wrenching story about Tilikum, the largest Orca in captivity and one of SeaWorld’s most treasured Killer Whales. Yet he is as notorious for his aggression as he is for his size.

Despite killing experienced trainer Dawn Brancheau and two other people since 2010, as well as numerous other instances of ‘acting out’, Tilikum has been used to father more offspring than any of SeaWorld’s other Orcas.

Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite compiles shocking footage of Tilikum since his capture in 1983, exploring the creature’s extraordinary nature, and the cruel treatment he and other whales receive in captivity.

Blackfish reveals the sometimes devastating consequences of keeping such intelligent and sentient creatures in captivity, and the pressures brought to bear by the multi-billion dollar sea-park industry.
