For much of the 90s, Thomas Kinkade was America's most successful artist, selling his idealised, kitschy scenes of cosy cottages and welcoming village streets into homes across the country.
But behind his much-loved persona as the wholesome ‘Painter of Light’ were demons that would drive him to alcoholism and scandal.
A vault of unseen, unexpectedly dark paintings, discovered only after his death, offers a key to an unknown side of Kinkade, unravelling the chocolate-box life he had presented to a middle America so desperate to buy it.
In Art For Everybody, Miranda Yousef peels back the layers of Kinkade’s facade to reveal a more complex and troubled man than his public ever knew.
