Details
In 1971, Chinese conceptual artist Li Yuan-Chia opened a gallery in rural Cumbria, a space in which he lived and worked for the latter part of his life, eschewing the commercial art world and enabling scores of artists to exhibit their work.
This captivating film traces Li’s journey from the oppressed art scene of post-war Taiwan, through 1950s Milan and London in the Swinging Sixties, to settling in the English countryside near Hadrian’s Wall and founding the LYC Gallery, which would become his life’s work.
All and Nothing captures the life of an artist who lived his values and refused the mainstream. The film is created with a tenderness and curiosity that match Li’s own, interviewing not just the artists who passed through the LYC Gallery, but also the locals and friends whose lives Li touched.
