When her alcoholic mother, Nuala, goes missing somewhere in Ireland, video-artist Myrid Carten returns to the chaos of her family home, creating a haunting portrait of their relationship.
Carten – who has always documented her life and family – begins to film again as she finds herself drawn back into the realms of her mother’s addiction, while trying not to lose herself in the process.
Richly evocative and imbued with a profound sense of longing, A Want in Her combines old home movies, elements of performance and unflinchingly honest conversations with Nuala to create a searing account of the cost of unconditional love.
