For more than twenty years, highly acclaimed editor David Charap has moved back and forth between documentary and fiction genres in a varied career including films directed by Pawel Pawlikowski, Mark Isaacs and Kevin Macdonald.
David’s most recent credits include some of the most creative and lauded feature documentaries of 2020: Jerry Rothwell’s BIFA-winning The Reason I Jump, Thomas Imbach’s IDFA winner Nemesis, Rob Lemkin’s African Apocalypse and Marc Isaacs’ The Filmmaker’s House (set for a UK release in June.)
In this masterclass, David will focus on a selection of his recent non-fiction work, discussing his approaches and methods, while editing in very different genres and with very different directors, and considering the changing role of the documentary editor.
