Free-spirited 23-yr-old alpine climber Marc-André Leclerc has made some of the boldest solo ascents in history, but with no rope there's a fine line between genius and madness.

Featuring some of the most awe-inspiring, heart-stopping free solo climbing ever captured on film, The Alpinist follows maverick Canadian climber Marc-André Leclerc.

Veteran climbing filmmaker Peter Mortimer (The Dawn Wall) had spent decades documenting the sport when he first heard about Leclerc, a mild-mannered soloist already gaining legendary status amongst his fellow climbers for his virtuoso ascents on both rock and ice.

But the free-spirited 23-year-old is an elusive subject: nomadic and publicity shy, he is reluctant to let the film crew in on his pure vision of climbing. As Mortimer struggles to keep up, Marc-André sets off on a historic adventure in Patagonia that will redefine what is possible in solo climbing.
