Our Venue

Located at Curzon Bloomsbury in central London, the Bertha DocHouse screen hosts a vibrant daily programme of documentary screenings and live events.

The UK’s first dedicated documentary cinema, the Bertha DocHouse screen offers a varied programme of international, cross-genre documentaries, as well as filmmaker Q&As, masterclasses and discussions, 7 days a week.

We aim to celebrate the depth and breadth of the documentary form, showcasing films that you won’t see anywhere else, festival favourites, themed seasons and retrospective screenings as well as the very best new releases.

Opened in March 2015, the Bertha DocHouse screen is independently owned and curated. It is housed in Curzon Bloomsbury, with ticket booking through the Curzon box office.

Opening times

We’re open every day, year-round, with screenings from the afternoon into the evening. The building itself opens 30 minutes before the first film of the day.

See Curzon website for details.

Accessibility

The Bertha DocHouse screen is on level -2 of the Curzon Bloomsbury. It is accessible by lift, and has one wheelchair space. There is a wheelchair-accessible restroom.

Seating dimensions:
Width: 49cm
Depth: 49cm
Rows A-F: all seats have armrests

Row G: includes three sets of ‘double seats’ that don’t have an arm rest in between.

Relaxed Screenings

We host a relaxed screening on the first Wednesday of every month at 2pm. These are specifically designed for those who would appreciate a less formal cinema environment. Relaxed screenings are open to everyone but may benefit individuals with autism spectrum conditions, learning difficulties or sensory and communication difficulties.

What to expect from relaxed screenings:

• No trailers or adverts, so the film will start promptly at the advertised time.
• Lights will be kept on low throughout the film.
• Sound volume is set quieter than usual screenings.
• Capacity is capped at 50% to allow plenty of space between groups.
• Seating is unallocated so you’re free to sit where you like.
• You’re welcome to move around or walk out of the screen and there is a quiet seating area outside the screen to take a break if needed.
• There will be a member of staff on hand to help get you settled and perform regular screen checks throughout the film.
• Toys, electronic devices, food, and drink are all welcome inside the cinema.

Look for the ‘relaxed screening’ label on a film listing to see which screenings are relaxed.
