Details
In the remote highlands of Montenegro, a shepherd and her teenage daughter hold on to a traditional rural lifestyle amid the growing pressures of the contemporary world.
Gara passes on her wealth of ancestral knowledge to Nada, as they herd animals, gather herbs, make cheese and live in symbiosis with the mountain and their community.
As Gara fights to defend their home from the threat of becoming a NATO military training ground, Nada must begin to think about her own future, as the pain of their family history is slowly revealed.
Winner of this year’s Sundance World Documentary prize, To Hold a Mountain is a film rich in gently observed details, from the demands of pastoral labour to the love in domestic rituals.
