The screening on Saturday the 4th of July was followed by Q&A with director Gianluca Matarrese. Hosted by Malaika Bova, curator of Italian Doc Season 2026.
Based on a true story from inside the director’s familial village in Southern Italy, I Want Her Dead blends documentary, fiction and theatre to expose a decade long domestic feud, “too petty for fiction, too absurd to be true”.
Luisa, a fierce and unruly woman at war with her sister-in-law Imma, fuels a bitter feud that consumes their entire household. As tensions spiral, three eccentric aunts stage a surreal family “trial” in a last-ditch effort to restore peace. Social realism blends with farce, black comedy with tragedy, exploring the fine line between everyday resentment and irreversible catastrophe.
