The first documentary by acclaimed Argentinian filmmaker Lucrecia Martel (The Headless Woman, Zama) is a deeply resonant reflection on a 2009 land dispute that resulted in the death of indigenous leader Javier Chocobar.

68-year old Chocobar was shot and killed as he tried to defend himself and his people from being forcibly evicted by a local landowner and two former police officers.

A wide-ranging and ravishing film that takes us from cross-examination in the courtroom to the sweeping history of the Chuschagasta people of Northern Argentina, Landmarks is a singular work that faces down the centuries-old, colonialist legacy of land and property theft across Latin America.

"A powerful work of reclamation and advocacy for native peoples who have long been disenfranchised and dehumanized by systemic forces in colonial Argentina."
