The screening on Thursday the 22nd of January was followed by a Q&A with director Ryan Sidhoo and Olympic luge athlete Mirza Nikolajev. Hosted by film programmer Chloe Trayner.

Three teenagers in Sarajevo chase their Olympic dreams on a bullet-riddled luge track, trying to reach beyond the limits of post-war Bosnia.

For Mirza, Zlatan and Hamza, the neglected, concrete track – a mighty relic of the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Games – holds all the promise of their potential, and all the despair of a country halted in its tracks, yet to recover from the ravages of war. Their coach’s unwavering commitment to rebuilding the track mirrors his struggle to secure a future for the boys, in a country burdened with one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the world.

The Track traces their diverging paths over five transformative years, as they navigate a world still scarred by the atrocities of the 1990s. Ultimately what emerges is a love letter to Sarajevo – what it was, what it has been through, and where the next generation will take it.
