The 1995 cult classic from Romanian director Andrei Ujică screens in collaboration with Pushkin House, to coincide with Jitish Kallat's solo exhibition, Cosmic Calls

This chronicle of life on Mir space station centres on cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev. It paints a vivid picture of what life is truly like in outer space. Beyond the everyday tasks of eating, exercising and conducting experiments in zero gravity, Krikalev also witnessed the collapse of the Soviet Union during his 10-month stay on Mir in 1991-92.

Out of the Present inspired several artworks in Jitish Kallat’s Cosmic Calls exhibition.

Followed by a Q&A with director Andrei Ujică, via Zoom, moderated by Pushkin House curator Denis Maksimov.

The event is organised with the facilitation of curator Kira Adibekov (Armenian Film Society London).

In partnership with Pushkin House
Pushkin House is an arts, cultural and social space that explores, challenges and debates Russian culture and identity today. In dialogue with other regions, we focus on the contested legacies, tumultuous present and possible futures of Russian, Eastern European, Caucasian, and Central Asian geocultural spaces. Our public programming, exhibitions and community engagement – across history, literature, and the visual and performing arts – share connections among individuals, disciplines, periods and cultures and engage themes of identity, citizenship, migration, displacement and belonging. We strive to be an open space for initiating critical enquiries and relationship-building. We are proud to operate as an independent organisation thanks to the vital support of our patrons, friends, visitors, and granting institutions. Please consider supporting Pushkin House’s mission and activities by donating or joining the vibrant community of our supporters
