Filmed over 7 years, Brittany Shyne's Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner immerses us in the lives of Black farmers in the American South.
By interweaving stories from three multi-generational farming families, Seeds creates a collective portrait of a long-established community and its ties to the land, as they face the contemporary issues of the US today.
Keenly observed and shot in sumptuous black-and-white, the film gently settles into their everyday lives – cotton harvesting, chasing cows, dealing with broken machinery and financial precarities – intimately capturing moments of warmth, joy and fulfillment. These striking vignettes honour the families’ connection to the land and each other.
