Dr. Maurizio Bini stands at the crossroads of science and politics.

As a seasoned doctor nearing the end of his career, he guides hopeful parents undergoing IVF alongside people recieving gender affirmation surgery, despite an increasing wall of resistance from Italy’s conservative government.

With warmth and defiance, he navigates bureaucratic barriers and ethical dilemmas, offering both medical expertise and human empathy. Gianluca Matarrese gains rare access to Bini’s consultations, capturing moments of hope, doubt and quiet rebellion. His portrait of a doctor fighting for body autonomy is both intimate and profoundly political.

Official Selection Sundance 2025.

The screening on Saturday the 5th of July was followed by a Q&A with director Gianluca Mattarese. Hosted by Malaika Bova.
