Details
Acclaimed filmmaker Ruth Beckermann takes us to Favoriten, one of the most culturally diverse neighbourhoods in Vienna, and right into a busy primary school classroom.
Beckermann spent three years following a class of pupils, from the age of seven to ten, and their ambitious, energetic and devoted teacher, Ilkay. The majority of children don’t speak German at home, some families are wounded by war experience and many face discrimination, but Ilkay is determined to create an inclusive, supportive and safe environment gently guiding her class through their daily adventures, defeats and victories.
Favoriten is an ode to childhood and a surprisingly cheerful portrait of a small community mirroring the complexities of contemporary European society.
