The screening on Thursday the 3rd of August was followed by a discussion with director Hanna Polak (via Zoom) and guests, including Fahima Saleh and Lotika Singha. Hosted by Founder of Yezedi Emergency Support, Anne Norona.

Oscar-nominated director Hanna Polak points her lens at Sinjar in Northern Iraq, an area devastated by the Islamic State’s attempt to wipe out the Yazidi people.

Amidst the rubble, Polak gives a voice to those trying to rebuild and seek justice, bringing attention to the resilience and bravery of both those who remain and those who returned.

Central to the documentary is survivor Hanifa’s desperate mission to rescue her younger five sisters, who were kidnapped by ISIS in 2014. Despite immense danger, she remains steadfast and determined. However, with the odds against her, will she be able to save her sisters and achieve her father’s dying wish of reuniting their family?

With incredible access to one of the most dangerous places on Earth, Angels of Sinjar is an impassioned and shocking reminder of the horrors of the Yazidi genocide, which bears witness to a community trying to rebuild.

This screening of Angels of Sinjar will take place on 3rd August, to mark the anniversary of the start of the genocide.
