An unsentimental elegy to the American West. The film follows the last modern-day cowboys leading their sheep up into Montana’s Absaroka-Beartooth Mountain for summer pasture. An age old mid-west tradition, but not one that springs to mind, and one that when filmed in 2003 was on the wane, capturing a Norwegian-American clan in the last big sheep round up. It reveals a world where nature and culture, animals and humans, vulnerability and violence are all intimately meshed.
