“Grimonprez’s superb, gut-punching exploration of the global arms trade is the sort of catalyst to energize politically-minded viewers... deserves wide exposure at home and abroad.” - Variety
Directed by Johan Grimonprez and based on Andrew Feinstein's globally acclaimed book The Shadow World: Inside the Global Arms Trade, this explosive new film reveals the murky world of international arms trade.
Stitching together archive footage and expert interviews, the film reveals a hidden world where governments and intelligence agencies operate at the whim of huge weapons manufacturers. And where bribes and corruption determine the economic and foreign policies of some of the biggest countries in the world, often with devastating effects.
This extraordinary film ultimately reveals the real cost of war, the way the arms trade drives it and how the weapons are now being turned against the citizens of liberal democracies.
This Q&A features director Johan Grimonprez and writer Andrew Feinstein, hosted by Nicholas Gilby.
Nicholas Gilby led Campaign Against Arms Trade's efforts to expose corruption in Britain's arms deals with Saudi Arabia. His book on the subject - Deception in High Places: A History of Bribery in Britain's Arms Trade - was published in 2014.
