Want a sneak peak? See below for a few highlights:

CAMERAPERSON **Grand Jury Award Winner**

Dir. Kirsten Johnson / USA / 2016 / 102 mins
For 25 years American cinematographer Kirsten Johnson has roamed the globe for some of the doc world’s biggest directors, including Michael Moore and Laura Poitras. In this thoroughly engrossing film she refashions some of her footage into a kaleidoscope musing on her profession. Innovative and thought provoking, Cameraperson proves a masterclass in empathetic filmmaking, a must see for anyone forging a career on filming the lives of others.

THE CONFESSION

Dir. Ashish Ghadiali / UK / 2016 / 90 mins
From supporting the Bosnian Mujahideen to being imprisoned in Bagram and Guantanamo, from the rebel training camps in Syria to the prison cells of Belmarsh in Britain, Moazzam Begg has experienced a generation of conflict. This is his first-hand account, a chronicle of the rise of modern jihad, its descent into terror and the disastrous reaction of the West.

MY SCIENTOLOGY MOVIE

Dir. John Dower / UK / 2016 / 99 mins
Following a long fascination with the Church of Scientology, the beguilingly unassuming Louis Theroux won’t take no for an answer when his request to enter the Church’s headquarters is turned down. Aided by ex-members of the organisation, Theroux employs actors to recreate claimed experiences. In a bizarre twist, it becomes clear that the Church is also making a film about Louis.

CITY 40

Dir. Samira Goetschel / USA / 2015 / 73mins
Welcome to “City 40”, whose residents have a higher than average standard of living than other Russian citizens – before dying prematurely of radiation poisoning. Director Samira Goetchel uses secret filming to take us inside the city, which was closed to the outside world for decades. We follow some of the braver inhabitants battling for their voices to be heard, in a chilling manifestation of the nuclear arms race.
