Wang Shin-hong is a successful Mandalay businessman who suffers from insomnia. After seeking advice from a fortune-teller, he is told that he should spend 14 days in a monastery living life as a monk and eating only one apple a day.
Having arrived at the monastery, Wang Shin-hong’s head is shaved and he receives a red robe, after which he is informed that he will become the abbot in the monastery. He soon discovers that most of the village women work as illegal immigrants in China and he advises them to be careful. Midi Z’s 14 Apples represents class struggle in an unstable, globalized world.
