Black Mother is a spiritual exploration through Jamaica told through polyphonic testimonies of those who call the island home.

Part film, part baptism, in Black Mother director Khalik Allah brings us on a spiritual exploration of Jamaica. Allah introduces us to a succession of candid testimonies from people who call this island home, that create a polyphonic symphony.

Immersed in the sacred, the profane, and everything in-between, Black Mother channels rebellion and reverence into a deeply personal ode informed by Jamaica’s turbulent history but existing in the urgent present.

The subjectivity of the director here is never hidden, but nor does it flood what is a rare piece of documentary filmmaking exploring mother earth.
