It's 3 July 1973 and David Bowie brings his alien pop messiah Ziggy Stardust to the stage of London's Hammersmith Odeon for what would be an historic "farewell" performance. D.A. Pennebaker's cameras document Ziggy's famous last stand, onstage and off, in one of the most thrilling concert films ever made.

Unbeknownst to the audience or even his own band, Bowie made a shock announcement during his performance stating “this show will stay the longest in our memories, not just because it is the end of the tour but because it is the last show we’ll ever do.” No one knew at the time that Bowie would return.
