Lovers Rock", often known as romantic reggae, is a uniquely Black British sound that developed in the late 70's and 80's against a backdrop of riots, racial unrest and sound systems. Lovers Rock allowed young people to experience intimacy through dance – known as "scrubbing." Inspired by female artists, it was also the UK's first 'girl power' music. Followed by a Q&A with director Menelik Shabazz and artists Janet Kay ("Queen of Lovers Rock") and Victor Romero.
