The inspirational and life-affirming rags-to-riches true story of a barmaid who bred a champion racehorse.
In a former mining village in Wales, Jan, the local barmaid who has always bred dogs decides to take on an unlikely challenge; to breed a champion horse. Despite disbelief by most locals she persuades a group of friends from the local working men's club to part with £10 each a week to help pay while she keeps the horse on her allotment. Remarkably the young foal, grows into an unlikely champion, beating the finest thoroughbreds in the country. But when their horse suffers a near fatal accident the group are forced to make a tough decision.
Dark Horse is an audacious tale of luck and chance and beating the odds; the inspiring tale of how a bunch of stoic working class heroes from the Welsh Valleys took on the elitist racing community and beat them at their own game. Bringing hope and pride back to their depressed community.
