2,800 North Americans volunteered to defend the Republic of Spain during the Spanish civil war. 85 of those volunteers were African Americans, who fought in Spain against racism and for the civil rights that were denied to them in their own country. This documentary reveals an unknown page in 20th Century history and tells the story of the invisible heroes who fought for their freedom in a far-away war.
We're delighted to welcome Professor Paul Preston to join us for a Q&A after the screening on Saturday 10th October at 6.30pm.
To coincide with the release of Invisible Heroes we've programmed two one off screenings of Joris Ivens seminal documentary from 1937, The Spanish Earth, narrated by Ernest Hemingway. Read more about the film and book tickets here.
