FREEDOM FIELDS + Dir Q&A

Dir: Naziha Arebi
United Kingdom / Libya / 2018 / 99mins

Freedom Fields follows  a group of women in post-revolution Libya dream of making it to an international football tournament. Their all-female football team is met with disapproval and endless obstacles thrown from the Libyan football federation.

This inspiring documentary follow their personal lives as well as their fight to be allowed on a football field; while the threats on social media from enraged men become increasingly serious, violent and very real.

As the country descends into civil war and the utopian hopes of the Arab Spring begin to fade. Through the eyes of these accidental activists, we see the reality of a country in transition, where the personal stories of love and aspirations collide with history.

This tense, passionate film, is a love letter to sisterhood and the power of the team.
