Legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog's descent into near madness, as he battles to make his epic tour de force Fitzcarraldo, in the rainforests of South America. Director Les Blank's camera calmly records the journey as almost everything that can go wrong does. 

Andrew Kötting is an award-winning filmmaker, artist and Professor of Time Based Media. He made numerous short films, which were awarded prizes at international film festivals before making his first feature-film Gallivant (1996). Subsequent features include This Filthy Earth in 2001, Ivul in 2009, This is our Still Life in 2011 and Swandown in 2012. 

Across 10 Thursday afternoons, celebrated doc-makers from Sophie Fiennes to Penny Woolcock to Kevin Macdonald will give a personal introduction to one of the films they chose for the Sight & Sound Greatest Documentaries of all Time poll.
